Annual Meet & Greet recap – get in touch and get involved!

A couple of weeks ago, on 11th April, we held our annual meet and greet social event. An opportunity to learn more about our grassroots community, our history and how we are moving forward, almost fifty of us met and mingled over food and drinks at The Bull & Claw. An ice-breaker find-someone-who activity meant that everyone met everyone else, reminding all of us that we’re much more than ‘just’ a parent – we’ve had so many varied experiences, lived all over the world and picked up many a skill along the way – bungee jumping, yoga and the splits being just a few of them!

We were delighted to see so many new faces, especially the dads, to make new friends and to share thoughts on how we can improve the international parenting community in Shanghai. As the largest online community group for international families in Shanghai, we’re run by you, for you. This means that we’re always looking for new volunteers to keep our content and events fresh and interesting.

We’re thrilled to have created such a positive and supportive atmosphere on the night of the 11th, and we’d love it to continue! Here are some of the open positions that we would love to fill in the near future:

  • A seat on the Executive Committee,  spearheading (This is a big one! But also extremely rewarding)
  • Event organisers for events both large and small, including coffee morning leaders for Jing’An, Jinqiao and Xintiandi. We invite you to committ as much as you are able, for a one off event, or for the longer term
  • Content planners and writers – we know that our community is so well connected here in Shanghai, if you know of interesting events taking place, or the amazing people organising them, please get in touch!
  • Website maintenance volunteers – not a huge committment in terms of time, but very valuable to us!

If you’re interested in any of the above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any of us! Laetitia, Jenny, Melanie, Jessica and Hannah are involved in many activities, coffee meetups and groups around Shanghai, are easily recognisable from photos above and below, and are also available at shmamas@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you!

To make it even easier to give us your feedback, please scan the code below, and give us some quick online feedback. Tell us what we’re doing well, and where we need to improve.

If you weren’t able to attend this event, don’t worry! We’re planning another similar event soon in Hongiao – details are below. Would you like to meet others in your area, or know of a great venue? Let us know!

In the meantime, check out some photos of our event …
