Summer has arrived, and with it comes the highly anticipated holiday break! As parents, we all want our children to make the most of their time off, but we also understand the challenges that come with it. How can we ensure that our children have a productive and stress-free summer vacation?
The team of devoted elementary school counselors at Shanghai American School’s Puxi campus have developed eight brilliant tips to make your summer holiday a breeze.
Routine is key to ensuring a smooth holiday transition, as Ginger Harper, PK, K, and Grade 1 Counselor, can attest. No matter where they are in the world, Ginger’s family sticks to the same morning and bedtime routines. She says, “These routines are easy to lean on despite being in a cramped hotel room or on a multi-day journey, and our kids welcome the consistency at the end of the day.”
Emily Horgan, Grades 2 and 3 Counselor, emphasizes the importance of staying active. She recalls, “I have awesome childhood memories from tennis, swimming, football and horse-riding camps! I cherish these memories, and the healthy habits they helped to develop.” Engaging children in physical activities not only boosts their health but also helps them develop essential social skills.
Memories made together as a family are also a treasured component of a summer holiday. Grades 4 and 5 Counselor, Faith Ro, highlights the significance of shared experiences. “It could have been a planned family trip or even as simple as a special family dinner,” she says. “The important part was that we were doing something as a family and having fun!”
Summer is the perfect time to nurture growth, explore new possibilities, and create precious memories. And with these eight tried and tested tips, you are well on your way to unlocking the joy of a stress-free summer holiday. Your children’s summer break just got a whole lot brighter!
