A Sense of Home: Love Across Borders

At Shanghai Mamas, we love to celebrate the unique and exciting things our members are involved with. Eve Wee Ang is a longtime Shanghai Mamas member and contributor. Since she arrived 13 years ago, she has been sharing her stories as an overseas Singaporean with Singapore Global Network (SGN). Recently her stories were made into a stunningly beautiful mini-film called “A Sense of Home: Love Across Borders”.

In the film I mentioned about Shanghaimamas and how your website was a lifesaver for me during those early years of homesickness and loneliness. From there I went on to form a support group call Thursday Tai Tai (TTT) for Singaporean and Malaysian wives which will celebrate our 13th anniversary this March.

I am incredibly thankful to Shanghaimamas for your support. When I finally found my tribe, I started writing at my now defunct blog, wangtaitai.com (now eveweeang.com) and Shanghaimamas too helped me publicise. My blog was discovered by Shanghai Family Magazine which eventually led me to be their columnist now.

This mini film is Eve’s family’s story about long distance relationships, separation during Covid and the truths and struggles about being an expat. Though it’s their individual experience, there are many aspects that we can all identify with and the difficulties we go through being away from home.
