Our September and October events

Perhaps you’re finding a new lease of life after the summer now the children are heading back to school, or maybe you’ve just arrived and are looking to get out and about and make some new friends. Either way, we have all the information that you need! Here you can find information about the many events that we are hosting in September and October, including weekly coffee meetups which now happen all over the city, Book Club and other special events (check website for details and locations).
Weekly coffee mornings
Tuesdays 11, 18, 25 September and 8, 15, 22 and 29 October – Downtown coffee morning
This takes place every Tuesday from 10.30am, and all Shanghai Mamas, Papas, friends, and helpers are welcome. There is a wide menu of options and a safe play area for littles to run around while you chat. If you are interested in attending, find me on WeChat at Hannah_Zheng_ and I can add you in.

Tuesdays 11, 18, 25 September and 8, 15, 22 and 29 October – Xintiandi coffee morning
This takes place every Tuesday from 10 am until noon at Sproutworks Xintiandi store, with special breakfast details available for mamas. Outside tables also available for sunny days!

Wednesdays 12, 19 and 26 September and 10, 17, 24, 31 October – Hongqiao coffee morning
This takes place every Wednesday around 10 am-noon. Everyone is welcome, including mamas, ayis and friends and little ones. If you are interested in attending, please find group owner Siobhan on WeChat at WeChat ID SiobhanBrown.

This takes place every Friday mornings from 10 am until 12.30 pm or thereabouts. Please join us for coffee and delicious baked goods, the more, the merrier! Saturday 8th September, 11am-5pm – Welcome Back event
Shanghai Mamas is partnering with Fields for an awesome Welcome Back event! Enjoy music, dancing, interactive workshops and food. Returning families and newcomers will all love learning about what this cool and vibrant city has to offer. Will be held at the Shanghai Centre and supported by our media sponsors That’s Shanghai and Urban Family magazines. Don’t miss this event!

Tuesday 11 September, 7pm – October book group
The Shanghai Mamas Book Club will be meeting Tuesday 11 September to discuss the September 2018 book selection – Where All the Light Tends to Go, by David Joy. Reading the book is not a requirement for joining us – if you are in need of a night out, some adult conversation and maybe some adult food/drink – join us! If you’re interested in following but can’t make the meeting, join our WeChat group!

Thursday 13 September, 12-1.30 pm – Following the route of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) & 5 Element Personality Test with Body & Soul clinics
Join us and hear from Doris Rathgeber, founder of Body & Soul clinics. Origins tracing back more than 5000 years and an ever increasing popularity around the globe make Traditional Chinese Medicine a highly interesting topic. This course takes you on the route of a different approach to health and living. It explains the basic philosophies of TCM, the history of the medical system, the diagnostic as well as the diverse therapy methods. Get yourself inspired by a different perspective on how the body works and interrelates with its environment and learn how to implement TCM into the daily life. After getting to know the principles of TCM, identify your personality and body type according to the TCM system. Which of the 5 elements mostly represent your personality and body? Which of the types outline your constitution? (Note: a personality test will be provided at the beginning of the class.)

Thursday 27 September, 10-11.30am – Australia & NZ Travel Talk
If you are thinking of travelling to Australia or New Zealand, and want to know more…. please join us! Our host will be Australia Expat Travel, an Australian travel agency who have helped many Shanghai expats with their travel planning and booking since 2004. They know both countries well and offer local knowledge on where to go and what to do! There will be plenty of brochures and information available. In addition, you will receive a discount offer on their consultancy fee for attendees who book holidays over the next 12 months.
