What's Happening At the ShMamas Family Fun Day

Just a few more days until our 9th Annual Shanghai Mamas Family Fun Day, and our awesome volunteer party-planning committee has been working extremely hard over the past few months to make this event unforgettable!

Don’t miss out on THE social event of the year! This is not your standard event – on one day you get to enjoy live music, be entertained with a slew of creative activities to keep the whole family happy, and have amazing food from your favorite Shanghai vendors (altogether in one place)! You can catch up with your long-time friends, and meet many new families who make up our vibrant community.

We have tried to think of everything our members will need on the day. There will be baby changing facilities, some quiet space for little ones who need a nap during the day with brand new travel cots from Baby Björn, as well as their high chairs in the food area (and they can even lend you a baby carrier for the day if you’d like)! Plus there will be TONS of activities for ALL ages and really cool stage entertainment. We have even put in a special request for a perfect autumn blue-sky Shanghai day!

No need to pack a picnic, we have you covered with an incredible variety of food options from community favorites, including Sproutworks, Hatsune, Gracie’s Ice Cream, The Public, Boxing Cat Brewery, Vietnamese Homemade, Strictly Cookies, Jonas Emil’s Coffee, Bumbu Indonesian, Spread the Bagel, Amelia’s, La Coyota, Gre3n, Element Fresh, and The British Kitchen. There will be awesome sweet and savoury selections to make everyone happy throughout the day.

As for the entertainment, we have an excellent stage lineup of live performances throughout the entire day. Live music from our headliner Rock Suey, a perennial Shanghai favorite, who will be playing favorite covers of classic rock songs, the Tipsy Trio, a blend of Americana roots and traditional music to get the whole family dancing, and Michelle from Jitterbugs will lead a kids jam session. Taiko Drumming will start the day with an memorable performance, and we’ll have contests and other fantastic performers all day to keep the party hopping!

Throughout the campus, we will have some really neat activity sponsors – there is NO WAY the kids (or you!) can get bored!

    • Toddler Zumba World by Z&B Fitness will get the little ones moving
    • Barefoot Portraits will be taking quirky and fun portraits of the whole family
    • YCIS’s Artist-in-Residence will lead an art project for children
    • Rollin Music will have interactive games with unique, hand-crafted musical instruments
    • Soapnut Republic is bringing slippery soap bubble and foam fun to the party
    • Imported Fun is stocking the sandbox with fossils and gems so kids play archeologist and then learn about their amazing finds
    • Shanghai Gymnastics is running an acrobatic obstacle course
    • IconX is bringing a skateboard ramp and leading demos for sk8tr tricks
    • Plobot will be teaching kids about coding and robotics engineering in a playful and engaging way, and
    • Ming Jian will answer questions about kids and car safety in Shanghai

Additionally, there will be a bouncy castle, face painting, a “nail salon”, a basketball shootout, floorball games, arts and crafts, playground skill challenges, a “fairy tale forest”, and loads of other activities from our community organizations. We have also invited other non-profit organizations so you can learn about the wonderful charity projects happening in our community. And that’s not all — we still have a few more fun surprises up our sleeves!

Of course, we have our annual tradition of the group photo where we bring everyone together for a gigantic group shot — and it’s amazing to see how our community has grown over the years. The photo will be on the website to download a few days after the party.

Oh, and have your heard about the amazing raffle prizes? They are OVER THE TOP this year! A team of dozens of dedicated Shanghai Mamas members have been knocking on the doors of our community businesses to get AMAZING raffle prizes. The generous response has been overwhelming and we have so many raffle items that your winning chances are excellent.

Where is it? How to get there? The party is at YCIS Shanghai’s Hongqiao Campus and it’s extremely convenient if you are riding metro – just take exit 1 then cross Shuicheng Road to get to the campus (it’s literally RIGHT across the street)! If you are driving, you can buy a significantly discounted parking voucher for parking at Star Plaza across the street when you enter the event. Be sure to ask at the ticketing stand about the parking tickets for only 20rmb (Whoa!!). Show your taxi drivers the map below to easily get you there.

How to get tickets? Paperless tickets are available at a lower cost if you buy them online through YooPay by scanning the QR code below. This easy-to-use online system will automatically send you a QR code that will get you into the party. YooPay offers a secure way to purchase tickets and accepts international cards including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, as well as Paypal and some local cards and payment options. If you’d rather pay cash at the door, this is also an option.

Do I need to bring anything? We have most everything you’ll need already there, but we encourage everyone to pack a picnic blanket, sunscreen, and a re-usable food container to minimize waste (plus many of our food vendors are offering a discount if you use your own cups/plates)!

Why is this event important to Shanghai Mamas? The annual party is our single largest source of funding through the year. The support we receive from our members who buy tickets to the event, purchase raffle tickets, and even drop a few rmb into our donation box allows us to expand and grow our community to support more international families in Shanghai. It’s a big karmic loop!

We always need volunteers! One of the incredible things about the Shanghai Mamas community is that it’s 100% volunteer organized. Many people give their time, energy, and tremendous talents to the organization to help it thrive! It’s a great way to make new friends and to connect into a network of international parents who are making their community a better place…PLUS you get a free ticket to the event for a 2-hour volunteer shift.

We owe a massive thanks to our fantastic team of co-organizers and sponsors. It has been a collaborative effort from a great team!

Raffle tickets can only be purchased in person – no online sales.  There will be plenty of opportunity to purchase at the party, or if you are unable to attend send me a PM and I will get you connected with one of the people who are selling raffle tickets prior to the party.
