Help Disadvantaged Children as a Stepping Stones Volunteer

Do you…

  • Speak English fluently and confidently?

  • Enjoy interacting with children?

  • Want to improve the education and general welfare of disadvantaged children?

Join Stepping Stones to create a better future for migrant and disadvantaged children in Shanghai. Along the way, you’ll meet like-minded volunteers from around the world and discover your inner talent for teaching and mentoring! Volunteers from all backgrounds are welcome!

English is one of the three core subjects in the Chinese curriculum and it is the one that poses the most challenges to rural and migrant children. About Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones China is a not-for-profit charitable organisation registered in Shanghai with a mission to improve the education and general welfare of disadvantaged children in China. Stepping Stones currently recruits, trains, coordinates, and supports hundreds of volunteers to teach thousands of students in more than 30 migrant schools and community centers in Shanghai and Zhejiang Province. Over the years, our program has expanded to English teaching via Videolink, Home Classroom, teacher training and teachers’ English Corner. We also provide computer classes and eye care provisions (free eye tests, treatment, spectacles and eye operations) for migrant and left-behind children in Shanghai and rural China.

Shanghai Mamas is always looking for ways to support the many local charitable organisations that work tirelessly to help improve our Shanghai community. We periodically post about volunteering opportunities and events happening in and around Shanghai to help connect these great organisations with Shanghai Mamas members looking for ways to give back. If your organisation is recruiting volunteers or would like help when it comes to spreading the world about upcoming events, we would be happy to support you.
