Kites and Kips

Welcome to the new photoblog project, Shanghai My Eye.

Welcome to a new photoblog project, Shanghai My Eye. Each entry will feature one photo taken somewhere around town that speaks in some way to the experience of living in this mad and marvelous metropolis.

I’m hoping for this to be a group effort – although for sure I have plenty of photos of my own, I’d love for this blog to have many contributors! Let’s build up a collection of images of Shanghai as seen through the eye of the shanghaimamas community – beautiful, strange, surprising, alarming, amazing.

So please, send me your photos, along with a short paragraph about what the image means to you. For example:

I took this picture not long after moving to Shanghai in May 2009. It was a beautiful day, and I was exploring the streets around Yu Yuan for the first time with my daughter marveling at, well, pretty much everything, when I spotted this old gent catching a late morning snooze. Right away I loved this snapshot for its colours and composition, but looking back on it now, I also see how many small but iconic Shanghai elements it contains – the sleeping man, the kites, the thermos, the bamboo scaffolding, random electrical wires, etc etc.

Email contributions to: You are welcome to submit as many photos as you like, but seperately please – only one photo and description per email.
