On Sunday 17 October, Shanghai Mamas held its third biannual Book Swap at EF’s offices in Jing’an. It was our most popular and successful book swap to date with more than 150 people showing up to choose from around 2,000 books donated by the community. A total of 5,550 RMB was raised for Lifeline, with the leftover books donated to EF and APM (A Pleines Mains).
Check out the video and photos at the event in this article.
A reminder of how our book swap works, you have the option to:
a) Donate only – clear out some books you no longer want and drop off at one of several locations across the city. No registration is needed. If you are leaving China and want to donate this winter please contact shmamas@gmail.com.
b) Swap books – donate some books then attend the event to choose some new ones in return. Registration is mandatory and will open in early 2022.
c) Shop books – come and buy books for 15 RMB each, without having to donate any. Registration is mandatory and will open in early 2022.
A huge thank you goes to EF for hosting the event, as well as our amazing team of volunteers from Shanghai Mamas and Boy Scout Troup 12. And a special thank you to Sarah Cox who conceived of the idea to hold this event, and under whose leadership the book swap goes from strength to strength.
We’re looking forward to holding our next book swap in Spring 2022 so watch this space!
