Not quite.Even if you have enough purifiers to make your home look like a showroom, no matter what model you’re using, if the filters haven’t been changed in a while, chances are you’re simply recycling dirty air back into your abode.And, since the particles have been trapped in there for a while, that could mean the air inside your house is even worse than outdoors.
Here’s what you need to know about purifier filters to ensure you keep the dirty air particles that have encroached upon your territory at bay:
HEPA filters – are what trap small particles like PM2.5. When brand new, these filters can remove up to 99.97% of airborne particulates.Many purifier brands pride themselves on using HEPA filters, but forget about the carbon filters. These are essential to removing dangerous chemicals like formaldehyde and benzene from the air you breathe.On top of those two heavy duty filters, a pre-filter is also necessary for removing larger particles, pet hair, and household dust.
All three layers are an essential part of multi-stage filtering.But it’s also important to remember that these three key elements do no good if your filters are left in for too long. If you’re living in a polluted city, filters should be changed every three to six months – or sooner. Check your filters, and if they look dark and dirty, even if it’s only been 80 days, it could be time for a change. On the bright side, dirty filters mean your purifiers are doing their job – keeping the bad stuff out of the air you breathe and your lungs.
