Wondering how to unlock your child’s potential?

Why is hands-on exploration important for young learners?

Excited to foster a passion for learning?

Exploring pre-kindergarten options can be overwhelming with countless choices. At Shanghai American School the pre-kindergarten program follows the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching. Could this be the perfect match for your child and family?

What is Reggio Emilia?

Originating in the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy, the Reggio Emilia approach shines as the crème de la crème of early childhood education methods. It recognizes each child’s unique individuality, autonomy, and immense potential while nurturing a collaborative learning environment. This aims to establish the groundwork for social and emotional well-being.

This student-centered approach emphasizes that we don’t need to teach children what children can find out by themselves. Instead, it’s our responsibility to create enriching environments, while remembering that it’s not always about what students learn, but how they learn.

In the program, children cultivate independent thinking, explore creativity, and establish collaborative learning communities right from the start of their educational journey.

What parents say about the Reggio Emilia approach pre-kindergarten program at SAS

“Instead of simply being told what to learn, our child is encouraged to ask questions, research topics in depth, and draw her own conclusions. This has significantly developed her problem-solving and decision-making skills.”

“SAS fosters strong moral values. Balancing needs and rights come naturally to our child who readily shares toys with friends and waits patiently for her turn during games. Witnessing her empathy and concern for others – like offering a play invitation to a crying friend – warms my heart and affirms the positive impact of the SAS environment.”

“SAS encourages parents to be involved in our children’s learning experience. We know the details of our daughter’s school life, from her lunch menu to her reading buddy. These become topics at the dining table and bring our whole family closer.”

“SAS provides a caring and respectful environment for kids, making it easier to help children develop independence and confidence.”
