“Where can I buy baby strollers, clothes, toys in a store in Shanghai?” This is a question I often see people asking in our different Shanghai Mamas WeChat groups. But even in the land of eternal Taobao bliss where friends send you product links on the daily, where image search makes it ridiculously easy to find any item you lay eyes on, and where returning a major bust of an item really isn’t too hard (come on, they pick it up at your own door within a few hours), we sometimes want to be able to go into a physical shop, look at and touch an item before buying.
This was the inspiration for this article- a list of small brands, independent shops, large chain stores and malls that you can visit in person (or arrange to see the items with the brand owners). Perfect for when you want to really touch and see an item before buying it, or if you’re just in the mood to browse and see what strikes your fancy.

Clothing Brands
Finding baby and kids’ clothes in Shanghai isn’t as easy as we would have thought. Taobao or TMall stores always have a much larger selection than in their stores which is annoying but at least there are some Western as well as Chinese chains with physical stores throughout the city that we can rely on for essential pieces such as Gap, Zara, Uniqlo, H&M, Balabala, Okaidi, COS, and Muji. Moving up in price point, you will generally find a pretty large jump to higher-end clothing brands such as Petit Bateau, Jacadi, Bonpoint, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger Kids, Mini a Ture, Rylee Cru, Teenie Weenie, Tartine et Chocolat, jnby, Nicolas & Bears and then right up to the designer brands such as Emporio Armani Kids, Kenzo, Fendi, Gucci, Brunello Cucinello, Burberry, Space 22, Bebel Lux and more.
When it comes to children’s shoes, we’re usually disappointed in the small selection found within larger stores which is why if you’re looking for kids shoes you should go to a dedicated children’s store such as the kids stores for New Balance, Nike, Adidas, Fila, Sketchers. Dr. Kong and Mikihouse are other children’s stores that carry kids’ shoes. The department stores at Lane Crawford have a pretty small selection of higher-end branded shoes, as well as Jiuguang Department Store 9 and Bao Da Xiang on East Nanjing Road.
